I’m seventeen and I came out to my 88 and 87 year old grandparents, both of whom are almost deaf.

Me: Nana, I have something I need to tell you. I’m a lesbian.
Nana: What? A thespian? You’re a thespian?
Me: No Nanny, I-
Nana (shouting to my Granda): BEN! GET IN HERE! LAURA JUST TOLD ME SHE’S A THESPIAN!
Granda: A thespian? Oh we can’t have that can we? Oh dear dear dear dear dear.
Me: No, that’s not what I said!
Nana: Now you listen to me, dearie. I won’t have you messing about with all that thespian silliness. I shan’t stand for it.
Me: NO, I’m a LESBIAN. I date girls instead of boys!
Nana: Oh well that’s alright, as long as you’re not one of those damned girls on the telly.

It’s going to be hard telling them I want to be an actress.
